Who we are
Ninety Sky
Ninety Sky is a rain forecast for the next ninety minutes, on iPhone and on the web at ninetysky.com. It's made and operated by Ali Yazdi ("we", "us"). This policy covers the app, its widgets, the website and our servers.
What we collect
Only what a forecast needs
The place you ask about. When you search, the text you type goes to our server, which looks it up with a geocoding service. The coordinates are used to build your forecast.
Your location, in the iPhone app, if you allow it. The app reads your location only while it's open, to forecast for where you are, and sends only the coordinates to our server. It never tracks you in the background, and you can say no and choose a place by name instead.
Rain alerts, if you turn them on. We keep your phone's notification token together with the place you follow, rounded to about a kilometre, so our server can tell when rain is coming there. Turning alerts off deletes both.
Feedback you send. Your note, your email address if you give one, the place on screen rounded to about a mile, and the app version, so we can look into it and reply.
Server logs. Our host records each request, including coordinates and your IP address, and keeps these logs for up to 30 days to keep the service running and fix problems.
Settings stay on your device. Your saved places and preferences are stored in the app, its widget, or your browser, and never sent to us.
What we don't do
The things we leave out
No accounts, and no names.
No advertising, and no advertising or analytics SDKs.
No tracking you across other apps or websites.
No selling or sharing of personal information, as those terms are used in California and other state privacy laws.
No history of where you've been: the app asks for your location when you open it and doesn't keep a trail.
How we use it
To make the forecast, and make it better
We use this information to build and show forecasts, send the rain alerts you ask for, reply to feedback, keep the service secure and running, and measure how accurate our forecasts are. Accuracy scoring works on 8-kilometre forecast cells, not on people.

The services we rely on
We share only what each service needs to do its job:
Railway hosts our servers and processes all of the requests above.
Apple provides maps and turns coordinates into a town name in the iPhone app, and delivers rain alerts through its push notification service.
OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap serve map tiles on the website, so they see your IP address and the area on screen.
Photon, Nominatim and Zippopotam.us receive the place text you type, through our server.
OpenRouter, and the AI model provider it routes to, receive radar and weather-model numbers for a forecast area and the place's name, so the Jev model can weigh them. They never receive your IP address or anything about you.
NOAA, the National Weather Service and dynamical.org receive the coordinates of forecast cells when our server fetches public weather data. Nothing about you is sent.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people or the service.
How long we keep it
Not long
Server logs: up to 30 days.
Rain alert registrations: until you turn alerts off, or 30 days after the app was last opened.
Feedback: until it's resolved, and no longer than two years. Ask and we'll delete it sooner.
Forecasts and accuracy scores are kept per forecast cell and contain nothing about you.
Your choices
What you can do
Turn location off, or choose places by name, in iOS Settings or in the app.
Turn rain alerts off in the app or in iOS Settings.
Ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, at hello@ninetysky.com. We'll answer within 30 days, wherever you live.
We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13, and Ninety Sky isn't directed at them. If you think a child has sent us information, write to us and we'll delete it.
The rest
Security, location and changes
Everything travels over HTTPS, and we keep as little as we can, which is the best protection there is. Ninety Sky is offered in the United States and its data is stored there.
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If a change affects what we collect or how we use it, we'll say so in the app or on the site before it takes effect.
